Our staff offers gracious and attentive service to our guests. All our front line personnel are local Maya people who speak English and have been extensively trained. They are certified by Belize Tourism, and our guides also receive US Park Service Training.

Indian Creek Lodge is run almost entirely by women (95%), while our other more isolated lodges are run by men who work in two week shifts.

BLE is currently the largest employer in the southern Toledo District and our goal is to provide meaningful employment and significant increases in household income to the indigenous Maya people.

As part of our philosophy of sustainable well managed land use, we provide local job opportunities and develop valuable skills through extensive job training in ecotourism services, and wildlife and forest management enterprises. In this way, we provide alternatives to destructive slash and burn agricultural practices and hunting.
